In today’s society, truth has become hard to identify. That’s why it is important that we recognize the Word of God is our benchmark, our marker on which truth is found. That’s what guest minister Pastor Russell Kalenberg talked about this past weekend. He provided five ways in which the Word of God can be a standard in our lives that cannot be moved; this standard is a solid foundation on which our whole lives can be confidently built.

Dive Deeper:
A survey monument cannot be moved. It’s a reference point to the surrounding area. It decides boundaries and is a benchmark for truth. This past weekend, Pastor Russell drew the connection to how the Word of God is a survey marker in our lives and a benchmark by which everything else can be measured. That means when the world around us is faltering, unsure of what is truth, we can look to the Bible and find a standard for truth that is unshakeable.

Deception is too common in the day we are living. Many are deceived, but we won’t be deceived if we are certain of our source of truth. When the light of God’s Word shines, it will always disperse darkness and let truth be known.

When we build our lives upon the truth of God’s Word, it provides course correction. It lets light into our lives. It provides legal weight that can settle boundary disputes. The enemy can’t prevail when we remind him of the unchangeable standards of God’s Word!

The Holy Spirit helps us understand how the Word can be our standard. He reveals what we need to know about the Bible, and encourages us in our daily lives.

Last weekend, Pastor Jim gave the 29th installment to his teaching series on the book of Romans entitled, “Grace Unveiled.” In this chapter, Paul talks about his own personal struggle as to why he keeps doing carnal things that he doesn’t want to do, yet he keeps doing them. This portion of scripture has to do with believers who are alive in their spirit man but are walking out their lives in spiritual defeat because they’re trying to obey the law with all of its rules and regulations in their own self-effort, their own strength. Pastor Mac presented the third installment of his new series entitled, “The Impossible Dream.” He said it was important that we have a clear understanding of what is the impossible dream. It’s not enough simply to dream. You need to go out on a limb and dream an impossible dream. What is an “impossible” dream? It’s a dream that can’t be fulfilled without God’s ability and power! Pastor Mac said, “God has called us to be dreamers.”

Pastor Jim continued with his series on the book of Romans entitled, “Grace Unveiled.” His focus was the passage in Romans 7:13–14: “Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful. For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.” Pastor Jim taught on the Apostle Paul’s own personal struggle with trying to live his Christianity with an Old Covenant mindset… how it was impossible to do and something that would only bring about failure. In spite of Paul’s warning, many Christians try to live their Christian lives with an Old Covenant mindset.
