The Rapture—When?

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God…” (1 Thess. 4:16–18)

For the past two weekends, Pastor Mac has taken us through the details of the Rapture, addressing these two questions: who is going and when will it occur? The Rapture, or the taking away of the Church, will close out the Church Age.

While scripture tells us that we cannot know the day or the hour of the Rapture, we are able to know the times and the seasons. There are five notable signs or events that are to occur before the Rapture is to take place. While each generation has pointed to current events in its time as signposts of the Lord’s coming, not until Israel was reestablished as a nation in 1948 can we view events as precursors to the end of the Church Age.

In addition to Israel’s statehood, other key events include a growing apostasy (falling away) of the Church as well as earthquakes, pestilence, wars and rumors of wars. Most notably is the war of Ezekiel 38, which is to usher in the latter rain, a time of revival where God reminds the world that He is God. The final sign will be four blood moons with a solar eclipse right in the midst that clearly signal the coming of our Lord to take His Church.

While we are not able to pinpoint the exact time of the Rapture, it is important to be watchful. It will be unto us according to our faith, so we must recognize the reality of the Rapture and have it as a focal point in our perspective as we watch these events unfold around us.
