Saying Goodbye Is Never Easy

Pastors Tim and Renee are willing to be open, real, and honest about life. They welcome people into their lives so we can learn from God at work in themand know that He is at work in our own lives, too.

Tuesday mornings during the school year, the hum of ladies in the Fellowship Hall can be heard as they gather together at Girls of Grace for encouragement, small group time, and large group teaching. A similar hum happens once a month on Saturdaysonly the tone is much loweras the men of Living Word gather for Manhood Breakfast.

These are two of our largest small groups at Living Word; Manhood was started in 1989 by Jim Glassford and Pastor Tim Burt. Girls of Grace (formerly Home Makers) was started by Pastor Tim’s wife, Pastor Renee, a couple years later. Throughout those 26+ years, hundreds of men and women have grown in faith and godly relationships thanks to the investment that Pastors Tim and Renee have made week after week and year after year into these ministries.

This spring 2017, Pastors Tim and Renee are both stepping down from their positions as ministry leaders of these groups and passing the torch on to new leadership. To say they will be missed is an understatement.  Ask any person who has sat under the Burts’ leadership, you’ll hear a lot of the same phrases and words being used. Pastors Tim and Renee are willing to be open, real, and honest about life. They welcome people into their lives so we can learn from God at work in themand know that He is at work in our own lives, too.

Pastor Charlie Houle’s words provide a glimpse into the impact Pastor Tim has made on so many through Manhood. “The relationships, connections, and friendships that have started and developed at Manhood are priceless to these men.…God has created  thousands of connections over all these years at Manhood.…Pastor Tim’s faithfulness to and love for these men throughout all these years has been nothing short of incredible.”

The end-of-the-year Girls of Grace party included a video to Renee in which many ladies took time to thank her. “We love that you are such an inspiration and we learn so much from you. You really live what you preach.” … “We feel the love coming from the pulpit every week.” … “Home Makers changed my life!”

Although it’s impossible to fully sum up the emotions surrounding these decades of ministry, Pastor Tim does it well. “Watching hundreds of men pursue leadership in and outside of the church and seeing them become great godly men and leaders has been one of the greatest joys of my life.” Pastor Renee’s words were similar: “Sometimes there are just no words…it’s been the best season of my life, and all of [the] girls (during all of the 26 years) have made my life so much sweeter!”

Their time with these ministries may be over, but the same opportunities to grow in God will continue. Men can join the final Manhood with Pastor Tim this Saturday morning, and then both Girls of Grace and Manhood will continue this fall. Keep your eye on our bulletin for details as to when they begin.

Thank you, Pastors Tim and Renee, for leading so many so well during this season of our ministry!
