High School Senior Reaches Around the World Through Online Business
Tega Ewefada is anything but a stereotypical student. Most high school seniors are concerned about making it through high school, preparing for college, and finding a date for the prom. But for Tega, a second-year PSEO student, these things are the least of her concerns. As site designer and owner of kishatee.com, her concerns involve the peculiarities of running a business.
Kishatee.com is an apparel website that donates 50% of its profits to charitable organizations. As the website states, "Kishatee is a socially conscious clothing company which is inspired by hope, change, and integrity."
Tega created the site in August, but the idea came to her back in December 2008 as a way to make one of her dreams come true. "Keep a Child Alive is an organization that I have always wanted to donate to since the day I heard about it," Tega stated. "I always told myself that one day I would."
She currently handles Kishatee by herself, but is working hard to one day be able to list Kishatee as a nonprofit business. "It's really important to me that the tee shirts and wristbands are inexpensive so that just about anyone could buy one if they wanted to," Tega stated.
Jason Yackel, ministry assistant at Driven Senior High, the youth group Tega attends, recently noticed Tega wearing one of her tee shirts from kishatee.com and asked her about it. While listening, Jason noticed that Tega has a "passion to do more with her life than the stereotypical student. A student like Tega is very rare to come by and we are blessed to have her involved and a part of what we're doing here in Driven Senior High."
Tega has been a part of Living Word Christian Center since third grade. "Being a part of Driven has definitely helped me become the person I am today. I am blessed to have such a great youth group. I seriously don't think I would be anywhere near the person I am today if I didn't go to Living Word."
Jeff Burquest, pastor of Driven Senior High, summed up Tega's drive to succeed. "It doesn't matter what Tega's peers or friends are doing or how busy she gets with her college work, Tega will only do what she feels God has called her to do. She is very quiet in her demeanor but extremely loud in what she does for the Lord."
"I know this is what I'm supposed to do," Tega commented. "God has been blessing me with a good business. It's been really stressful at times and I've taken a lot of risks, but I've grown a lot because of it and I'm glad I'm doing it."
Driven Senior High is a ministry of Living Word Christian Center, a local, word of faith church in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota led by Pastor Mac Hammond. Through various ministries and outreaches, Living Word encourages, equips, and empowers people to be followers of Jesus.
