Our History

On November 12, 1980, Mac and Lynne Hammond stood before a gathering of 12 individuals in a small meeting room at the Radisson Hotel in Plymouth, Minnesota. There, a vision was shared along with the Word of God. On that day, Living Word Christian Center was born.

One year later, church attendance had grown to 150 and meetings were moved to North Hennepin Community College. In 1984, the congregation moved to the site that would be its home for the next 15 years, an office park on Aspen Lane in Brooklyn Park.

Finally, in the spring of 1998, after much prayer, effort and corporate sacrifice, Living Word moved into its present home, a beautiful facility at 9201 75th Avenue North in Brooklyn Park. A church body of more than 7,000 members made that glorious move.

The broad vision articulated on that Sunday morning in 1980 has changed very little in the many intervening years. Many parts of it have been realized. Other parts are now coming into manifestation. Much remains to be prayed out and walked out.

At the core of that vision is a heart to reach the Twin Cities and beyond with the life-transforming love of Jesus Christ. It's a vision more and more individuals each week are making their own by becoming a part of the exciting and close-knit family at Living Word Christian Center.
